What is Social Media? Here's the definition...

Call it the world’s water-cooler, social web aka Web 3.0 or the great online democracy, Social Media is a phenomenon that has completely and rapidly changed the way people interact in their personal and professional lives.

Strangely enough, although millions of users (incl. prolific ones) are adept with the tools and terminology, most of them draw a blank when asked "What is Social Media?" Well, here’s the definition:

Social Media is

the entire ecosystem of collaborative communication technologies
online networks, live messaging, mobile web…

where users can generate, update, consume and share information
audio, video, pictures, profiles, tweets, text…

across multi-user platforms
real-time feeds, live streams, blogs, member websites, chats…

within interacting communities.
fans, followers, friends, groups, connections, contacts…

We live in an age of collaboration, where people can easily and quickly share information through conversations over social networks. In a sense, Social Media does make the web a better place to log in. Agree/ disagree?
